Character Creation

You create a character by allocation of skills based on the table (see rulebook) various skills at the set levels.
Depending on how the player has been trained gives you the chance to assign skills to a particular level.

Character Update

Skills after creation are then updated based on the allocation of points ( in BIF theses are referred to as smilies). These are awarded both before and after an event. In the travel period (between events) a character gains one point for being alive and may gain more points for giving an appropriated account on what they did during the intervening time period. The greater the tale given of your adventures the better the chance of receiving bonus points. This may take the form of a written background, actively participating in a character thread on www.viclrp.org.au forum under the BIF area or just telling a really good tale to the organiser doing creation.

At the end of the event you may gain up to three smilies to allocate to skills that would have progressed over the weekend. This is done by training or by being an active participant in the weekend.

Bonus points may be awarded if a particular role-playing feat stands out. These rewards are given by the organisers and only with complete agreement by the organisers running that particular event.

Training

Skills

If you can already perform a skill, e.g. stealth, but do not take a level in it you can still use that skill, but you get no skill advantages. For example, with stealth you would be relying totally on your own ability, if someone sees you, they see you rather than using the observations check required for someone with the Character Skill. If you train and use a skill you already know, you will gain points and eventually higher levels in that skill. Learning a skill from your guild is easier and cheaper than learning one from another guild. This means that it costs approximately twice as much as a guild member would pay. Each point costs a certain amount depending on the level that the skill is currently at (see table in the Rule Book).

Your character can also gain an extra point during the travel period by paying for training on the way. This payment is calculated in the same way as training within game time or at the end of the event.

Combat

A combat circle for training will be set up. Any combat performed in that area will be treated as if using padded weapons and heavy armour etc. No damage will be taken. To represent this, a coloured tabard will be worn while in the training circle. This must be removed when leaving the circle as this represents the time taken to remove training gear. Any combat that takes place outside that circle will be treated as full damage and be taken accordingly.
